Tooth whitening

Have your teeth become discoloured or do they appear yellow? Or do you want to brighten up your smile – perhaps for a special occasion? If so, tooth whitening can help to revitalise your smile without the need for expensive veneers and crowns.

Our tooth whitening procedure is effective, convenient and safe, leaving your teeth lighter and your smile brighter.

Treatment steps

  • At your initial consultation, our dentists will make sure your teeth are suitable, as whitening will not work on crowns, bridges, veneers or fillings.
  • A referral to the hygienist may be necessary to remove staining before treatment can commence.
  • We then take impressions of your teeth, so custom-made mouth trays can be made to provide a snug and comfortable fit.
  • You will need to wear these at home with a bleaching gel for a specified length of time each day.
  • After wearing the trays for a couple of weeks, you will attend a follow-up appointment so we can check your teeth have reached the desired shade.

Although this treatment is carried out at home, we still keep a close eye on your teeth to lessen any gum irritation and tooth sensitivity.

Aftercare

Whitening is a permanent change, however, teeth can become dull over time if you consume coffee, red wine or pigmented food, and you may then feel a top-up is needed.

As our tooth whitening treatment uses high-quality lightening gel designed for dental professionals, you will need to see the dentist before buying more gel for a top up. This is to ensure your trays still fit appropriately and you get the best results.

We suggest you keep on top of your oral hygiene, avoid smoking and are mindful of what you eat and drink to help retain tooth colour.
